Omicron variant: 75% less deadly than Delta-What a new study showed

People infected with the Omicron variant of the new coronavirus are 75% less likely to develop a severe form of COVID-19 and succumb to those infected with Delta, according to fact-based research – not a clinical study. , the conclusions of which were announced today by the South Korean health authorities.

KCDA refers to a serious illness in the case of patients who need admission to intensive care units (ICU).

About 56% of the 1,073 people who died in the past five weeks were either unvaccinated, or had only received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in this study. 94% of the dead were aged 60 and over.

More than 86% of the population of South Korea (52 million) are fully vaccinated, while almost 60% have received a booster dose.

The KCDA also announced today that in the 24 hours until midnight yesterday Monday, 99,573 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed and 58 patients died due to complications of COVID-19.

The death toll from a new coronavirus pandemic in South Korea has risen to 7,508 deaths out of a total of 2,157,734 infections, according to the KCDA. The mortality rate fell to 0.35%.

The number of cases remained marginally below the level of 100,000 for the second consecutive day, although it increased compared to the previous one, when 95,361 were confirmed.

The number of patients admitted to hospitals in serious to critical condition remained at 480 (unchanged in 24 hours).
