Brazil recorded 248 deaths from Covid and 21,250 cases of the disease, this Monday (28). With this, the country reaches 649,443 deaths and 28,786,072 registered cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Case and death data were updated for 26 states. Amazonas, Amapá and Roraima did not register new deaths. Paraíba has not recorded new cases, and the Health Department of the state of Paraíba said that the deaths reported in the last 24 hours occurred between February 23 and 28.

Paraná reported 17 new deaths, but only three deaths occurred in the last 24 hours; the remaining deaths occurred between June 6, 2021 and February 28, 2022.

After two weeks above 800, the moving average of deaths is down at 678, down 20% from two weeks ago. The moving average of cases also dropped to 76,497 cases. Two weeks ago, that figure was 133,713 (a 40% reduction).

The statistical feature that seeks to smooth out variations in data, such as those that usually happen on weekends and holidays, is calculated by adding the deaths in the last seven days and dividing the result by seven.

The country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between sheetUOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disclose the numbers related to the new coronavirus pandemic.

The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the state Health Departments.

Covid-19 vaccination data, also collected by the consortium, were updated in 21 states.

The consortium of press vehicles recently updated the Brazilian population numbers used to calculate the percentage of people vaccinated in the country. Now, the data used are the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) projection for 2022.

All numbers are now calculated according to these values, including last year’s. Therefore, the percentages of people vaccinated may differ from the previously published figures.

Brazil registered 715,123 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, this Monday. According to data from the State Health Departments, there were 153,346 first doses, 208,470 second doses. In addition, 2,116 single doses and 351,191 booster doses were recorded.

In all, 172,606,036 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil. There are already 155,168,678 people with two doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine. As for booster doses, 64,398,505 were applied.

Thus, the country already has 80.35% of the population with the 1st dose and 72.23% of Brazilians with two doses or with one dose of the Janssen vaccine, and 29.98% of the population with vaccine booster.

Even those who completed the vaccination schedule with both doses must maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distancing, say experts.

The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed newsletters about the disease and took information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of the totals of cases and deaths. In addition, the government has released conflicting data.
