SA Panel: Twitter puts alert on posts with Russian state vehicle content

by

Twitter announced this Monday (28) that, from now on, all messages published on the social network that have links to content from Russian state vehicles will be marked with a platform alert.

According to Yoel Roth, director of Twitter, the network believes that labeling tweets is a way to add useful context to discussions on relevant topics in the world, such as pandemic and elections.

“Since the hack, we’ve seen more than 45,000 tweets a day sharing links to Russian state media,” he says.

The initiative complements others already taken by Twitter since the beginning of the war, such as monitoring to identify and stop fake news attempts and suspending all ads in Ukraine and Russia to prioritize public safety information.

The measure comes in the wake of pressure for a position on social networks in the invasion of Ukraine.

The platform says that state-owned media in other countries should receive the same treatment in the future.

On Sunday, the European Commission said it was developing tools to ban state-owned media RT and Sputnik, and their subsidiaries, in Europe.

In recent days, giants Alphabet and Meta have also announced measures such as suspension of boosting and monetization.
