The first case of sheep and goat plague in a livestock unit in Attica was announced a while ago by the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food.

Also, in Larissa, only two cases were found in Kalochori of the municipality of Tempo within the surveillance and control zones.

Cases found within the zones are not a cause for concern and the disease is not transmissible to humans.

All samples are negative today in the Region of Western Greece

It is recalled that by decision of the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Kostas Tsiaras, and on the occasion of the detection of small ruminant plague cases in other regions of the country, outside of Thessaly, the movement of sheep and goats for breeding, fattening and slaughtering is prohibited throughout the territory.

The upgrading of security measures is deemed necessary for the entire country for preventive reasons and with the aim of limiting the spread and eradication of the disease.

At the same time, the services of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, in collaboration with the Regions, continue the epidemiological investigation regarding the origin of the cases, but also the route of possibly suspect imports.
