Rapid developments in the field of biology and biotechnology are driven by the evolution of life itself, the need to understand diseases as well as the constant pressure for more effective drugs. But the Biological Sciences are not limited there. Environmental protection, food safety, the study of alternative forms of energy, genetics, animal husbandry and agronomy, etc., are just a few examples of the specialization that can be obtained by someone who chooses to study Biology.

The most ideal choice for studies in this field is the European University of Cyprus which provides the comparative advantage in Health and Life Sciences, offering a total of 24 study programs, of which 11 exclusively in Cyprus.

Biology studies with specialization in Microbiology from the European University of Cyprus

OR Biology is at the forefront of science, making rapid progress in recent decades in understanding living organisms at all levels, from the molecular and cellular level to biocommunities and ecosystems. This knowledge finds daily applications in vital fields such as health, drug development, medicine, the environment, the pharmaceutical industry, food safety and agriculture.

The standard study program in Biological Sciences of the European University of Cyprus offers students the possibility of training in the subject of Biology, but also further specialization in the direction of of General Biology or her of General Microbiology. During the first 2 years of studies, students are taught a common core of courses and then, during the 3rd year of studies, they choose the direction of specialization.

In fact, this is the only program in Cyprus that provides the possibility of this specialization in Microbiologywhile it has been formulated based on the guidelines of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). During their 4-year studies at the European University of Cyprus, students of Biological Sciences have the opportunity to cover topics such as the foundations of biology and microbiology, but also to explore individual disciplines, such as Genetic Biology, Molecular Biology, Environmental Biology, Medical Biology and Marine Biology.

Biological Sciences students are trained in state-of-the-art laboratories of biochemistry, molecular biology and microbiology, while for one semester they carry out their internship and are placed in clinical laboratories in both the public and private sectors, such as the Department of Fisheries, Department of Forestry, Secondary Education, food and water laboratories and pharmaceutical industries.

The demand for a healthier life, as well as the effort to cultivate antibodies to fight various diseases and viruses point to the need for a deeper consolidation of the Biological Sciences. Today, where the need to understand the biological basis of serious diseases, the protection and development of the environment, food safety and the prevention of diseases caused by microorganisms, are top priorities. Studying Biological Sciences offers an opportunity for graduates to have a significantly active role in improving the quality and conditions of our lives, as well as prolonging it.
