On September 2nd, the Electronic Governance of Social Security SA (EDIKA) proceeded to expand the operation of the hub for the cross-border execution of drug prescriptions with the addition of Lithuania and the Czech Republic.

With the addition of the two new countries, a Greek insured person visiting Lithuania or the Czech Republic will be able to go to any pharmacy in these countries and execute an electronic prescription issued in Greece, providing only the AMKA and the police ID or the his passport.

The Greek cross-border hub, which is part of the European network MyHealth@EU, became operational in November 2023 with the interface with Poland for the execution of drug prescriptions and with Spain, initially for the exchange of Summary Health History between Greece and Spain and then to execute drug prescriptions.

In February 2024, the hub was interconnected with Estonia for both the execution of drug prescriptions and the exchange of Summary Health History.

Executives of IDIKA, during their trip to Estonia in August 2024, in the framework of the European TWINNING program concerning the exchange of know-how in electronic health matters between the EU member states, filled in an Estonian pharmacy their drug prescriptions that had been issued in Greece through the National Electronic Prescribing System. It is noted that in the myHealth app the insured can see all their executed prescriptions in countries that work with the Greek cross-border node NCPeH for the execution of prescriptions.

“We are continuing the development of the cross-border hub of the Ministry of Health, so that the insured have access to basic Health services when they are abroad. We continue with the same commitment so that in the near future Greece’s connections with France, Croatia, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Latvia and Finland will be added”, said the managing director of IDIKA Niki Tsouma.

It is noted that with the activation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS), the interoperability of cross-border nodes becomes mandatory for all member states, making it possible to “roam” Health services throughout the European Union.

Citizens will be able to easily identify cross-border eHealth services by the label “My Health@EU” or “MyHealth@EU”.
