Governor João Doria (PSDB) should not make the use of the mask flexible in schools, public transport and in closed environments in the state of São Paulo.
The hammer on the obligatoriness of the item in educational institutions, both public and private, will only be beaten on the morning of this Wednesday (9), shortly before Doria announced, at a press conference at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, the end of the obligation in almost all open environments.
Maintaining the rules for schools was the most likely path after a meeting between the governor and members of the Covid-19 Scientific Committee this Tuesday (8). But the entire process of how the measures will be discussed will still be discussed between them this Wednesday morning — almost two hours before the start of the interview.
THE sheet had already published last Friday (4) that Doria would opt for flexibility as of this Wednesday (9) in open environments, such as streets, squares, parks and commercial establishments. At the same time, the mask will continue to be necessary in closed environments as a form of prevention of coronavirus.
However, the rate of complete vaccination schedule against Covid among children aged 5 to 11, who make up the school population, was 19,5% until the afternoon of this Tuesday (8). This data should contribute to the fact that the mask is still required throughout the school environment.
According to the Secretary of State for Health, another 821,100 children can already take the second dose, but have not yet returned to health facilities. According to the folder, all municipalities received enough immunizers to vaccinate the public in this age group with at least one dose.
Doria has been calling mayors and publicly charging, as she did to the mayor of Lorena, Sylvinho Ballerini (PSDB), during the inauguration of a Poupatempo unit in the city, on the 25th. Lorena (190 km from São Pulo) invested only 41%. of the doses received for the child population at the time.
In addition to the advance of the vaccination campaign among adults, the data point to drops in the moving averages of cases of infection and deaths since the end of February.
The announcement should be politically exploited by Doria’s team, PSBD’s pre-candidate for the presidential election in October. Flexibility occurs when São Paulo reaches the rate of almost 90% of the population over five years of age with the complete vaccination schedule.
This Monday (7), the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), sent the governor an epidemiological scenario report from the Municipal Health Department in which he assesses that it is now possible to release the use of masks in open environments in the capital. .
The document states that, considering the vaccine advance and the pandemic scenario in the city, it is possible to withdraw the obligation to use masks outdoors. But it recommends maintaining the use of protections in closed places.
The use of the equipment has been mandatory in the state of São Paulo since May 2020, as a way of combating and preventing the new coronavirus.
Anyone caught without the accessory could face a warning and imprisonment of up to one year, in addition to the payment of a fine.
Finally, the value of the infraction for the citizen in an irregular situation was R$ 552.71 and, for commercial establishments, R$ 5,294.38 for each visitor without protection.
If the establishment does not present a sign, in a visible place, with information about the obligation, there is also a fine of R$ 1,380.50. The supervision of the measure is the responsibility of the municipalities.
