The actor ended up paying a high price to stay in shape. “I don’t recommend it, because it caused me a lot of harm. I took things from fashionable doctors, and I was addicted to it for years,” he said. “That wasn’t normal for me. I was doped and I wouldn’t pass the doping test.”

He also said that appetite suppressants had a devastating effect on his mental health. “They drove me into a state of depression.” In a recent interview with GQ magazine, Selton gave more details about this phase.

The actor explained that he had to lose weight drastically during the recording of the film “Lavoura Arcaica” (2001), when he resorted to medication. Addicted.

“It became a crutch. I had to lose a lot of weight, become a skeleton. There came a time when I took drugs, amphetamines and I started to stop eating. In the final stretch, I started taking diuretics and only consumed liquids.” It was through medication that he reached the form in which he appears when playing Chicó, from “O Auto da Compadecida” (2000). Part 2 of the film, shown on Saturday (7), at CCXP, will premiere in cinemas at Christmas.

“Chicó is skinny like that because I was on drugs. It became Russian roulette. I stopped, gained weight, started another film and the amphetamine came. This accordion effect was a love for the characters and a lack of love for myself”, he said.

He said he decided to seek medical help in 2009, when he was using amphetamines excessively, but felt no “effect”. Currently, he says that his self-esteem is not great, but he no longer uses chemical substances to lose weight. Selton even had to gain almost 20 kilos to play former congressman Rubens Paiva in “I’m Still Here”, a film that could take him to the Oscars.
