Coronavirus-Mutations: 138 New Omicron 2 Cases Detected

by

According to the new report of EODY, there are 138 new cases of coronavirus with the Omicron 2 mutation.

In total, 180 samples positive for the Omicron variant were identified, out of the 211 tested.

The sampling concerns the period February 27-March 12, 2022.

The announcement of EODY for the course of the spread of mutations in detail:

Completed by the National SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Surveillance Network, coordinated by ΕΟΔΥgenomic analysis in 211 samples which have been randomly selected or targeted and relate to the period 27 February 2022 to 12 March 2022.

From the control of 211 samples, they were identified in total 180 samples with strains of special interest (Variants Of Concern – VOC), all strains Omicron (B.1.1.529) (Table 3).

One hundred and thirty-eight from 180 Omicron strains related to strain BA.2 (77%, while two weeks ago the corresponding percentage
it was 24%).

Since the launch of the National Network of Genomic Surveillance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus until today, a total of 51,868 samples of domestic cases have been tested in the country.

Of these, 46,916 come from random sampling, 4,211 come from targeted sampling or sampling, and for 741 samples no sampling information is available.

During the two months before March 12, 2022, a total of 6,004 samples of domestic cases had been tested in the territory.
Of these, 5,575 come from random sampling and 429 from targeted sampling or sampling. Among the 5,575 randomly selected samples in the territory for the two months prior to March 12, 2022, the two most common special interest strains isolated are Omicron with 95.2%, followed by Delta with 4.8% (Table 4).

Among the 429 samples that have been taken or selected purposefully during the two months before March 12, 2022, 83.7% relate to the strain
Omicron and 16.3% in the Delta strain.

In addition, a total of 675 strains of special interest or under surveillance or interest have been isolated from samples of imported cases, of which 336 relate to Delta, 205 to Omicron, 113 to Alpha, 7 to Mu, 6 to Beta, 4 to B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K), 1 in Eta, 1 in C.36, 1 in Kappa, and 1 in B.1.1 (Variant E484K).

The evolution of the relative frequency of the sequenced samples from random sampling per species of strains, up to week 10 of 2022 is shown in Figure 8.

Regarding the executives of increased interest currently in the country, the geographical distribution by Regional Unit
is presented in Table 5.
