Anyone aged 60 and over in the state of São Paulo will be able to receive the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine from April 5th. But the third dose must have been applied for at least four months.
The announcement was made this Sunday morning (27) by Governor João Doria (PSDB), at a vaccination post in Parque Villa Lobos, in the west of São Paulo.
According to the toucan, the new stage of vaccination against the new coronavirus should reach about 4.5 million people in the state.
Doria has intensified her schedule with announcements and openings in recent days. He stated that he will leave office on the 2nd to run in the presidential election.
The announcement of the expansion was made at one of the posts installed in six public parks in the capital this Sunday for vaccination against Covid and for the beginning of immunization against the influenza virus for the elderly from 80 years old.
In the city of São Paulo, the Municipal Health Department anticipated the application of the fourth dose for the elderly over 70 years old to next Wednesday (30th). It is also necessary that the previous dose has been applied for at least four months.
The fourth dose is applied to the elderly from 80 years of age since the last 18th in the state of São Paulo. The Ministry of Health recommended boosting vaccination on the 23rd.
Even with the expansion of the public for the application of a fourth vaccine, more than a third of the elderly over 80 years old did not take a booster against Covid.
According to the latest data published by the ministry, the percentage of booster doses applied from age 60 onwards varied from 48% to 71% by the end of last month. Among the elderly aged 80 and over, close to 36% (about 2.8 million) had not yet received a booster dose.
The student Vitória dos Santos, 19, jumped out of bed early to get immunized at “Domingão da Vacina”, which takes place throughout the state, to expand the vaccination of children, adolescents and adults. A resident of Osasco, in Greater São Paulo, he went to the park in the Pinheiros region to take the third dose against Covid-19.
“I’ve been late for over a month,” he said. “I was worried, because now, with the release of the use of masks, people who have not completed the vaccine cycle are more exposed to the virus.”
Another who also had delayed vaccination was aromanist Yusbelys Rodriguez, 40. “I caught Covid, which ended up messing with my health and my life as well”, said the Venezuelan who lives in Vila Madalena, in the west.
“Actually, I should have taken the third dose at the beginning of January, but with the disease, I got sick and couldn’t be vaccinated,” he said. “That’s why I took advantage of the collective effort to resolve this once and for all.”
In addition to vaccination against Covid, Domingão da Vaccination also marked the beginning of the application of doses against flu for people over 80 years old.
“I have my vaccination cards up to date,” said retired Donato Pierri Netto, 83, who was one of the first to take the vaccine against the influenza virus. “You can’t play with vaccinations. I wanted to get mine right away and be free.”
