“The virus will remain with us like the flu virus, it will be another endemic respiratory virus,” said the president of the National Vaccination Committee, Maria Theodoridou, in today’s briefing on the course of the coronary pandemic in Greece.

According to him, the vaccines fully met the basic condition that is the prevention of laboratory-proven infection. At the same time, he noted that the CDC gives key messages about what is happening with the pandemic, stating that the vaccines are safe and effective for the delta variant and that the benefits outweigh the side effects, while in some groups the third booster dose is recommended.

“Significant knowledge and experience has been gathered for 11 months since the start of vaccinations against covid-19”, said Ms. Theodoridou.

She herself noted that the prevalence of the Delta mutation and the relaxation of protection measures contributed to the outbreak of the cases and the re-infection of individuals. The reduction in chemical immunity after six months, he said, contributes to this.

He pointed out that from the clinical studies the immunogenicity from the administration of the third dose was significantly higher. He even referred to a possible different vaccination regimen with three doses and an annual booster dose.

She stressed that the main pillar in the vaccination regimen remains the first dose and that the vaccination committee is studying a third dose in people who became ill before or after the vaccination.

He also talked about the side effects of vaccines, stating that they are the most common, ie those we know from the vaccines we give to our children, such as injection pain, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, rarely arthralgias that last one to two days. and are easily treated with an antipyretic analgesic, a small chance of swelling of the axillary lymph nodes for 1-4 weeks and resolves without special treatment.

Regarding pregnant women who became ill during childbirth and breastfed their children, he pointed out that according to a study, laboratory antibodies were detected in the serum of both mother and baby. As she said, breastfeeding protects the baby.
