The Prevent Senior CPI accused 20 people of 52 crimes in the final report of the investigations presented during the last session held this Monday (4th) at the São Paulo City Council.
The list of accused includes the owners of the health care company, the brothers Fernando and Eduardo Parrillo, the executive director Pedro Benedito Batista Júnior, in addition to six other members of the Pentagon, the name given to the company’s top management.
The owners were charged with the crime of failing to help. Eduardo Parrillo must also answer for a crime against humanity, according to the CPI report, for having participated in the study on the false effectiveness of chloroquine in the treatment of patients with symptoms of Covid-19.
They were summoned to provide clarifications at the CPI, but failed twice. The CPI received 18 habeas corpus that guaranteed the deponents the right not to answer all the councilors’ questions.
The same study supported the accusation by doctors Rodrigo Barbosa Esper and Fernando Terchi Costa Oikawa of endangering the health of others and for a crime against humanity. The professionals also prepared the protocol that indicated the prescription of the Covid kit to patients with symptoms of the disease.
When contacted, the company Prevent Senior contested the report and stated that it “has a total interest in technical investigations, without political overtones, to re-establish the truth of the facts”.
The prescription of the Covid kit to patients of the health operator was the subject of an investigation by the Public Ministry, which signed a TAC (Term of Conduct Adjustment) with the company to ensure the discontinuation of the distribution of medicines without proven efficacy against the disease.
For having prescribed the Covid kit and participating in the study, the CPI also indicted another 15 doctors for endangering the life or health of others and for a crime against humanity.
The CPI report will be sent in the next few days to the Public Ministry, which will decide on the continuation of the process. “The report shows that the company was set up to curb medical autonomy and prescribe drugs without proven effectiveness”, says the president of the CPI, councilor Antonio Donato (PT).
Prevent Senior’s CPI proposed to the city hall a series of inspections in relation to the fiscal, labor and operational situation of the company. “The Municipal Health Department has to improve the supervision of hospitals”, said Donato, who stressed the lack of supervision by the municipal administration in relation to the cadastral situation of the operator’s buildings.
According to councilor Paulo Frange (PTB), rapporteur for the CPI, half of the 14 Prevent Senior hospitals in São Paulo are irregular and work under a court injunction.
