Brazil recorded 140 deaths from Covid and 5,986 cases of the disease, this Tuesday (16). With that, the country reached 611,524 lives lost and 21,964,292 people infected by Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Ceará did not update records on Tuesday.

The moving averages of deaths and cases are in equilibrium, that is, without variations greater than 15%, compared to data from two weeks ago.

The average number of deaths is now 244 per day and that of cases is 9,744. It’s been 16 days straight with the average death toll below 300.

Country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between sheet, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and publish the numbers related to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The information is collected daily by the consortium of press vehicles with the state Health Departments.

Covid-19 vaccination data, also collected by the consortium, were updated in 26 states and the Federal District.

Brazil registered 52,844 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, on Tuesday. The considerably lower number than usual is a result of negative records for second doses (-71,170) and single doses (-2,387).

37,906 first doses and 88,495 booster doses were recorded.

The negative values of second doses occurred because of application reviews in Paraná (-530,351) and Santa Catarina (-89,476). The single dose is derived from a review in Amazonas (-2,338), in Minas Gerais (-505) and in Santa Catarina (-48).

Paraná and Santa Catarina also presented negative data for first doses, respectively, -49,484 and -22,843.

In all, 157,000,828 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil — 120,972,333 of them have already received the second dose of the immunizing agent. Added to the single doses of the Janssen vaccine against Covid, there are already 125,512,839 people with a complete vaccination schedule in the country.

Thus, the country already has 73.60% of the population with the 1st dose and 58.84% of Brazilians with a complete vaccination schedule. Considering only the adult population, the values are, respectively, 96.86% and 77.43%.

Even those who completed the vaccination schedule with two doses must maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distance, experts say.

The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles took place in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (non-party) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed bulletins about the disease and took information off the air, with the interruption of the dissemination of total cases and deaths. In addition, the government released conflicting data.
