The Jair Bolsonaro government (PL) has summoned the first 529 Doctors professionals across Brazil almost three years after launching the program that replaces Mais Médicos.
In this first stage, the idea is to send doctors and tutors to about 2,000 cities.
The new program was created in August 2019 by the then Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta (União Brasil-MS), but it stalled, among other reasons, because of the delay in regulating the activities of the agency that manages the hiring.
The government wanted to summon the first professionals in the first year of Bolsonaro’s term and bury the Mais Médicos, created in 2013, during the Dilma Rousseff (PT) government.
With the delay in getting Doctors in Brazil and pressured by the pandemic, however, Saúde returned to resort to the policy that is one of the hallmarks of PT’s management.
The Ministry of Health estimates that in 3 years it will end the old program and keep about 16,000 professionals hired by Doctors in Brazil.
Mais Médicos changed course days after Bolsonaro’s election, when the Cuban government announced the withdrawal of its professionals.
During an event on the hiring of the first Doctors professionals by Brazil, Bolsonaro criticized the PT, Mandetta and the Cuban government.
“Most of them [os médicos cubanos] didn’t have any qualifications,” said the president.
Minister Marcelo Queiroga (Health) minimized the delay. “We face a health emergency, everyone knows. The priority was to face Covid”, he said.
Health said it should provide more than 4,600 vacancies by the end of the year at Doctors in Brazil. The investment for hiring is R$ 783.6 million.
The folder said that it took into account IBGE data and the percentage of the vulnerable population in the municipalities to define the place where the professionals work.
In the first stage, Bahia will receive the largest number of workers (68) from the new program.
“Other changes are in the type of contract offered by the program, in the CLT modality with all labor rights, additional benefits for working in more distant areas, a career plan and better salary conditions, with remuneration of up to R$ 24 thousand”, said the company. Health, in note.
