Three out of ten Brazilians wear a mask outdoors, research indicates

by

At a time when several states and cities in Brazil have already released the use of masks indoors, 53% of the population say they use the equipment in these environments and another 29% also outdoors. According to a new survey carried out by the CNI (National Confederation of Industry), from April 1st to 5th, only 17% of people stopped adhering to face protection.

The previous edition of the survey, from November, pointed out that 40% wore a mask only indoors, 55% also outdoors and 4% had already abandoned the habit.

In all, 2,015 people aged 16 and over were interviewed in person by the FSB Research Institute in the 26 states and the Federal District. The margin of error in the total sample is two percentage points, with a confidence interval of 95%. The sample was controlled based on gender, age, region and education quotas.

Among those who responded to the survey on behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic, more than half say they only go to certain places wearing masks, such as supermarkets (73%), high street (64%), malls (61%). cinemas and theaters (52%) and restaurants and bars (50%). In addition, 70% said they only travel by plane or bus with the equipment, as well as 59% of those who work face-to-face.

When asked about going to gyms, 28% said they wouldn’t go and 41% only with a mask. About concerts and events, they are 29% and 43%, respectively.

The Brazilian has shown, according to the survey, a timid resumption of the pre-pandemic routine. In the last three months, 18% of people went to cinemas and theaters, 21% to gyms, 22% to concerts and events and 45% to shopping malls. In addition to 36% having traveled by plane or bus.

Going to bars and restaurants has become more commonplace (58%), as well as street shopping (84%) and supermarkets (95%). And 62% of Brazilians are already working in person.

proof of vaccination

Most Brazilians are still in favor of requiring proof of vaccination to attend classes in person at schools and colleges. While 77% support the charge, 17% are against it.

In addition, 61% of people who responded to the survey at the beginning of April are in favor of presenting the vaccination passport in any type of establishment, 31% are against and 7% are neither in favor nor against. In the November survey, the numbers were 65%, 22% and 10%, respectively.

Many places still require proof of immunization. In the last three months, 27% of Brazilians say they were asked to show their vaccination passport, a higher number than in the November survey, when 18% responded affirmatively to the question.

In order to increase the population fully immunized against Covid, the city of São Paulo, for example, began in February, in the municipal school system, an active search for children who had not taken the vaccine. The immunization of children aged 5 to 11 years, however, is not unanimous among Brazilians, as 16% are opposed to the idea and 4% are neither in favor nor against it.

With the numbers of daily deaths from Covid more stable, the fear of living with people who have not been immunized has diminished, the research also shows. Now 12% are very afraid and 19% are very afraid. In the November survey, they were 14% and 27%, respectively.

After the survey, according to those responsible, a weighting factor was applied to correct eventual distortions in relation to the sampling plan. Due to rounding, the sum of percentages can vary from 99% to 101%.
