That’s what I have.
If this is your first time here we will take you to another owner every week. This time it’s Karl Jerry, who moved into a flat in Hertfordshire last year.
They were the first single-income family to use shared property to climb a ladder.
Here’s what he had to say about his shopping experience…
.. Tell us about you.
I am 32 years old, a teacher at a school of social, emotional and mental health, living in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
Where is your property? What do you think of the district?
My property is in Hertfordshire, about 30 minutes from London. I love this area, it’s very quiet and the people are friendly. Transport links are good, there is little traffic and most of my friends have moved from London. That’s why I’m closer to most of my friends now.
When did you change?
I moved in June 2021.
How much is your property?
000250,000.
How much was the deposit?
£4,500.
How much is the monthly cost of living here now? Both mortgages and taxes?
Around 1200 lbs.
How do you save your deposit?
Rock really helped me because I saved more than half of my monthly income. I couldn’t go out for almost half a year, so it was easy to survive.
How was the process of getting a mortgage for you? Was it a difficult part for you?
It was not that bad. As a general rule, he had a mortgage, but at the time he was unable to provide a mortgage due to development progress, so the collateral was secured through three other companies. The process itself was very easy.
Where have you lived so far? Did you rent or live with your family?
With my family.
What made you want to buy instead of rent?
In 2021, I set a goal of becoming a homeowner and never thought of renting. I wanted to be called somewhere.
How did you find this property? What did he choose?
I used the website to regularly check “buy shares”. It was a new development, the deposit was reasonable, and the expected monthly costs were possible on a single deposit.
We saw four apartments in this development, all of which had their own bathroom and had a great view from the balcony door. The incoming morning light also sold me.
What do you think about having a house?
I haven’t finished my ring yet. It was brand new when I moved in and I put up some furniture and pictures but haven’t done anything landscaping yet.
My plan is to decorate in the summer, after being here for a year.
What influences your interior style?
I kept everything black. I like dark colors, this is basically an IKEA showroom. This is my first home so I keep it simple. There is no style yet. I am confident that we can develop it in the coming years.
What is your favorite room and why?
Definitely my living room. I love sofas and television. This section contains my Roman collection. I also like to be open so I can socialize before cooking, even when I have friends and family. There are also patio doors and windows on both walls so you can get the maximum amount of light and the view is amazing.
Do you think you have enough space?
Even at this moment. My second bedroom is useful not only for guests, but also for sneakers and aftershave collections.
Do you have any plans to change ownership?
Just plan the landscaping for the next few months to add more personality to your room.
Are there any property issues you need to address?
I think I was lucky to have been browsing normally since the day of entry.
What do you want people to know about buying a home?
It feels really cool to have one day to get the keys. Also, if possible, start shopping until you find the place you want. Before I explored the property, I had almost everything I needed for my kitchen, so when I moved in, I had almost everything I needed, so I didn’t have to buy much.
It could also be a real test of patience with a mortgage company or attorney, but it was worth it in the end.
Then measure everything twice. My fridge barely fits in my front door.
What are your plans for housing? Do you plan to stay here for a long time?
I’m staying here for a few more years, before then I’ll probably be staying with the kids and dogs I know so I need to be somewhere bigger and maybe a little closer to the London prize.
Looking around?
Would you like to participate in the movie “What I have”?
I own a series that takes you into people’s property to get an honest look at what it’s like to buy a house in the UK. If you’re a homeowner and ready to share your story, email us at [email protected].
This is so important that you also need to have some of the money you paid to live there and how you made the deposit.
You can participate if you rent it! What I have matches the one for “rental” which is the same series but all for rent. Again, if you want to activate it, send me an email [email protected].
