A 48-year-old man, who is expecting a baby with his 29-year-old wife, was shocked to learn that he had met his wife when she was a baby.
Rich Foetu Tomkinson met Evie Foetu Tomkinson when he walked into the pub where Rich worked in July 2018.
In October, they realized that their mutual attraction was too strong to deny, despite their age difference.
When Rich met Evie’s mother, Sarah, 53, he was shocked to discover that he had actually met her before.
Sarah and Richie worked on the same street in the ’90s. I mean, Richie almost certainly saw Evie kicked out by her mom.
Rich, a surveyor from Stafford, Staffordshire, said:
“We just laughed about it.
Age is just a number for us and nothing can be said to someone who has fallen in love with you.
“I’ve been misinformed about Evie’s father before, but most people realize how well we push. I don’t mind the 19-year age difference at all.”
They moved in together in February 2019, and Rich popped the question that same year.
With the support of their families, the couple married in July 2022, describing it as “the best day of my life”, and are now expecting a child of their own.
Social worker Evi said: “It was a bit strange to think that Rich knew me as a child.
He is very funny and has a big heart.
When we’re together, I can’t say there’s much of an age difference, other than Richie’s gray beard.
“He’s going to be a great father.”
At first I didn’t think the relationship would work out, but when we met it clicked right away.
“He’s a very warm person,” Evie said.
“I was attracted only from the first conversation.”
“We get along really well,” Rich said.
“I invited you to a big charity event I was doing to keep in touch.”
The two met at the pub where they first met, but Rich found her shocked when they went on vacation.
“When he left, I realized that I missed him and cared for him,” she said.
I told him when he came back and he told me he felt the same way.
Rich asked questions in front of 1,000 people at a local theater during a documentary screening about a charity event he organized in March 2019.
“I said yes without hesitation,” Evie said.
The couple has the support of both families, but they still have to ask embarrassing questions from the public.
“The woman asked me if I had been with my father once,” Evie said.
“But I didn’t mean anything bad and I think he was upset when I said he was my boyfriend.”
The couple has also had to deal with more tragedies during their years together.
First, Richie’s father was diagnosed with cancer and passed away around Christmas 2018.
Evie then lost her father, Martin Locke, suddenly in July 2021 at the age of 60. Her loss, coupled with the Covid restrictions in place at the time, forced her and Rich to postpone their wedding.
“I couldn’t bear the thought that my father wasn’t there to walk me down the aisle,” she said.
Then in October 2021, Rich suffered another blow with the passing of his mother, Nicole Tomkinson.
After these difficult months, we were able to celebrate our wedding day with an intimate ceremony, followed by a huge party in our friend’s field attended by over 200 guests.
“It was a great day,” Rich said.
“Our family and friends are always supporting us and they see how happy we are.
“At first, I don’t think anyone thought we’d last long, not even us, but now we’re happily married and expecting a baby.
“My parents always supported Rich because they saw that he made me happy,” Evie said.
“I’ve been in a tumultuous relationship before, so they found out he was a really nice guy who loved his daughter very much.
As part of the light at the end of all the tunnels of grief, they learned what they expected in May 2022.
“We’ve been trying for months,” Rich said.
“I was worried that getting pregnant would be difficult due to Richie’s age.
So when we found out, we were very excited. Rich yelled.
Three future families now look forward to traveling in the converted van.
“Ritchie remains a strong and healthy man and I know he will be an active father.
“His age doesn’t affect him as a father. I know he’s great.”
“In athletics, I thought I was a grandfather, not a father,” Rich said.
“We just laughed.”
