(News Bulletin 247) – The record contract signed yesterday between Air India, Boeing and Airbus is affecting the various suppliers.

Rolls-Royce announces today that it has received an order from Air India for 68 Trent XWB-97 engines, plus options for 20 more. This is the largest order ever recorded for the Trent XWB-97, which exclusively powers the Airbus A350-1000.

Air India has also ordered 12 Trent XWB-84 engines, the sole engine option for the Airbus A350-900. Financial details of the order are not disclosed.

Tufan Erginbilgic, Rolls-Royce Chief Executive, said: ‘With a dynamic and growing aviation sector, India is a strategically important market for us and we look forward to working with Air India.’

“We are confident that these engines will deliver the reliability and efficiency that consumers have come to expect from today’s leading airlines, and will thus play an important role in Air India’s overall transformation and growth strategy,” adds Campbell. Wilson, CEO of Air India.
