(News Bulletin 247) – In 2023, Thales is one of the 7 most innovative French companies and institutions in the world, according to the ‘Clarivate Top 100 Global Innovator’. This is the tenth consecutive time that Thales has been included in this ranking of the 100 most innovative companies in the world.
In total, 22 companies and institutions are part of this world reference list, which takes into account the quantity but also the quality of the patents filed.
At Thales, 3,000 researchers and 30,000 engineers are involved in Research and Development, and 4 billion euros are invested each year in R&D, 1 billion of which is self-financed. The Group files between 350 and 400 new patents each year, and holds a total of 20,000 patents.
Today, more than 50% of new patents are taken in key technology sectors: artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, ‘big data’, cloud technologies, augmented reality equipment and quantum technologies.
“In 2023, Thales will continue its research efforts, particularly in the promising fields of radar sensors and cameras, petawatt lasers and digital technology, which concerns 45% of our innovations”, indicates Bernhard Quendt, Technical Director of Thales.
