(News Bulletin 247) – Telefónica, Ericsson and Qualcomm are launching the first commercial 5G millimetric (mmWave) mobile network in Spain, during the Mobil World Congres 2023 in Barcelona.
This technological step will allow partners of compatible user devices to access Telefónica’s 5G mmWave network, powered by Ericsson, during the event.
Using the 5G mmWave spectrum is the way to achieve high speeds and high capacity, and deliver the best 5G experience in congested areas.
Gerardo Rovira, Director of Radio Access Telefónica Spain, said: “This first commercial deployment of 5G mmWave services demonstrates Telefónica’s commitment to developing and leading a strong 5G ecosystem that will be a key factor in bringing compelling services to the public and private sectors.’
Somaya El-Marrakchi, Head of Networks at Ericsson Iberia, adds: “Our collaboration with Telefónica and Qualcomm to deliver this 5G mmWave technology leap in Spain will radically change the experience of mobile connectivity for consumers and businesses, making it faster, more accessible and more reliable.’
