(News Bulletin 247) – The European Commission announces that it has communicated the list of its grievances to Apple clarifying, thus clarifying its concerns about the rules of the App Store imposed on music streaming providers.

Initially, the commission found that Apple had abused its dominant position by imposing its own in-app purchase payment technology on developers of music streaming applications (‘IAP obligation’); and limiting app developers’ ability to inform iPhone and iPad users about alternative music subscription services (‘anti-steering obligations’)

It now appears that the Commission is now only focusing on this second aspect, that of the ‘anti-steering obligations’, ie the contractual restrictions imposed by Apple on application developers.

According to the Commission, these restrictions would constitute unfair commercial conditions since Apple would not allow developers of music streaming applications to inform consumers about where and how to subscribe to streaming services at lower prices.
