(News Bulletin 247) – Safran announces that it has taken its first steps into the world of autonomous car racing at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, an event billed as ‘the most important and influential technology show in the world’.
On this occasion, the Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC) saw nine supercharged cars compete, fully autonomous, without a driver, and not hesitating to reach 290 km/h at the end of the straight.
A perfect opportunity for Safran Electronics & Defense and its recently acquired subsidiary Orolia to unveil the advantages of resilient PNT (Positioning, Navigation, Time) and GNSS simulation technologies, two market-leading technologies enabling innovation in the autonomous vehicle sector.
Safran was also able to sponsor Auburn University’s ‘Autonomous Tiger Racing Team’, made up of engineering students enrolled in the Orolia Academic Partnership Program.
Official vehicle of the Indy Challenge, the Dallara-built AV-21 has been equipped with hardware and control systems to allow its automation.
‘ The Auburn University team finished strong and achieved their ambitions: to push the limits of their technological knowledge while making improvements to accelerate an autonomous vehicle to high speeds, without it crashing or loses the link with its remote pilot’, announces Safran.
