(News Bulletin 247) – Dutch healthcare equipment manufacturer Philips announced on Tuesday that it has entered into a 16-year strategic partnership with St Bernard’s, Gibraltar’s only hospital.
This contract aims to develop a pole specializing in cardiac care, a project whose construction should start at the end of the year, for a period of nine to 12 months.
These new facilities should allow the hospital to operate at full capacity and to treat a greater number of patients thanks to the implementation of new technologies such as coronary angioplasty, catheters to treat arterial blockages and replacement not – invasive of heart valves.
At the same time, existing Philips systems will be replaced with newer technologies, including in two radiology rooms, with new real-time mobile radio imaging systems and ultrasound equipment.
A new scanner system should also make it possible to reduce delays in diagnostics.
The agreement, which must be accompanied by the signing of a maintenance contract, aims to prevent residents of British territory from having to cross the border to seek treatment in Spain.
