(News Bulletin 247) – Enel X and MIDAC announce today that they are joining forces to develop a sustainable lithium battery supply chain in Italy.
The two companies are engaging in R&D activities to build the country’s first major recycling plant for lithium batteries used in electric vehicles, industrial systems and stationary systems.
This initiative, implemented in partnership with other companies and research institutes, is part of the European IPCEI project on batteries.
The aim is to contribute to the development of a European lithium battery supply chain that is both sustainable and based on a circular approach. It is estimated that in Europe around 200,000 tonnes of lithium batteries will need to be recycled by 2030.
‘Thanks to this project, we will be able to open up new markets and new growth opportunities for companies, which will allow Europe to become more independent with regard to the supply of raw materials,’ stresses Francesco Venturini, general manager of Enel X.
