(News Bulletin 247) – Pfizer has launched a recall on some 4.2 million boxes of the anti-migraine drug Nurtec, marketed in the United States, due to a packaging defect, announced Thursday the Safety Commission of consumer products (CPSC).

In a notice posted on its website, the CPSC reminds that prescription drugs must be offered in pharmaceutical packaging that is safe for children, in accordance with the United States Poison Prevention Packaging Act – PPPA).

However, the packaging of the Nurtec is not childproof, which presents a risk of poisoning in the event of ingestion, explains the CPSC, which specifies however that no incident has so far been postponed.

The defective boxes were marketed between 2021 and March 2023 in American pharmacies.

Nurtec was discovered by Biohaven before being taken over by Pfizer following the acquisition of the biopharmaceutical company, finalized last year.

Pfizer shares dropped 1% after this announcement, compared with a decline of around 0.5% for the S&P 500 index.
