(News Bulletin 247) – Rio Tinto spent A$8.6 billion on Western Australian suppliers in 2022, a 2.5% increase on the previous year, as part of the the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting the communities where it operates.
This total was spent with more than 2,400 suppliers, including WA-owned and managed businesses, as well as international businesses with locally managed branches.
Since 2018, Rio Tinto has increased its annual spend with Western Australian suppliers by 73%.
To celebrate the huge contribution suppliers make to Rio Tinto and the local community, the company held an inaugural awards gala last night as part of its Supplier Recognition Program.
Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan congratulated the winners and praised Rio Tinto’s commitment: ‘Increasing the volume and quality of local work will support jobs and create a long pipeline of work for the future, for the benefit of future generations. This is a good thing and I encourage the industry to make the most of these opportunities. ‘
