(News Bulletin 247) – Spie announced on Wednesday that it has been selected by German electricity supplier Pfalzwerke Netz to manage approvals related to the modernization of its overhead power lines in the Rhineland and Saarland.
Under this framework contract, a subsidiary of Spie Deutschland & Zentraleuropa will provide the utility with a full range of services, including planning of flood retention areas and environmental supervision of the project.
The mission covers aspects ranging from the negotiation of easements with private owners to the registration of line rights in the land register.
Spie’s teams will also be responsible for planning road and water crossings, siting pylons in natural habitats and assessing the condition of existing lines.
According to the French engineering group, the passage of 20 kV lines through protected areas such as nature reserves makes this project ‘particularly difficult’.
This multi-year contract, which began in April 2022, is expected to be completed this summer.
