(News Bulletin 247) – Thales and Qualcomm Technologies announce the certification of the world’s first commercially deployable iSIM (embedded SIM) on the Snapdragon 8 Generation 2 mobile platform, enabling the functionality of a SIM card on the main processor of a smartphone.
“The new iSIM can now provide device manufacturers with more opportunities to save space, reduce construction and supply chain costs while maintaining best-in-class security,” the group said.
The emerging iSIM form factor complements existing SIM and eSIM projects, with research suggesting the market share will reach 300 million by 2027, representing 19% of all eSIM shipments, according to Kaleido Intelligence.
