(News Bulletin 247) – EDF carried out a new clarification on Friday concerning the corrosion phenomenon detected on portions of the pipes of several of its nuclear reactors.
The electrician stresses that the Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) informed him yesterday that it considered as ‘appropriate’ the timetable envisaged for the checks to be carried out on the priority welds.
Following the discovery of cracks on repaired welds, EDF had proposed last month to ASN an evolution of its strategy of controls of the phenomenon of corrosion.
In a brief press release, the group indicates that it is accelerating the inspection of the welds concerned of the safety injection circuit (RIS) and of the shutdown reactor cooling circuit (RRA) systems, in order to take into account the elements identified on the repaired weld on the Penly site.
In detail, 90% of the repaired welds identified as priority will be checked before the end of 2023, and all of these welds will be checked by the first quarter of 2024.
To date, the nuclear production estimate in France for 2023 remains in the 300-330 TWh range.
