PARIS (Reuters) – Taiwanese group Prologium plans to set up a solid-state battery factory for electric vehicles in Dunkirk, a source familiar with the matter said on Tuesday, adding that the project would represent a total investment of 5.2 billion euros in the 2030 horizon.
This gigafactory, which would be the group’s second after the one in Taiwan, would start production by the end of 2026, once the consultation process is completed, the source said.
The Hauts-de-France region participated in the negotiations, as it had done for three previous factory projects, a local source said.
“The idea is to create an ecosystem in the region that goes from production to recycling. Create a whole industry in Hauts-de-France, which has suffered a lot from deindustrialization,” said this regional source.
“The Hauts-de-France region is the leading automotive region, the goal is for it to anticipate changes and remain a major automotive region. Building greener cars, perhaps more autonomous, than today “, she added.
“It’s one more stone in the sector that we are trying to create, one more argument to attract other investors. And these are above all jobs,” continued the source, citing a total estimate of around 8,500. jobs between the future factories ACC (2,000 jobs), NVision (1,000), Verkor (2,500) and, therefore, possibly Prologium (3,000).
