(Reuters) – The manager of Ehpad Orpea, which has requested conciliation with its creditors and warned against asset write-downs, announced on Friday a loss of 4.03 billion euros for the financial year 2022, against a gain of 65 million euros a year earlier.

The year 2022 was difficult for Orpea after the publication of the book “Les Fossoyeurs” by independent journalist Victor Castanet denouncing the mistreatment of elderly people in certain establishments of the group, which caused a shock wave in France and a global reflection on how older people are treated in nursing homes.

“2022 was the year of the break,” said general manager Laurent Guillot during a press conference.

The group expects its net debt to reach 4.5 billion euros by the end of 2025, against 4.9 billion euros previously announced.

The deadline for the general meeting to approve the 2022 accounts has been postponed to December 29, 2023 by the president of the Nanterre commercial court, added Orpea.
