(News Bulletin 247) – Little movement at work at the start of the week on the European stock markets, where Paris and Frankfurt yielded nearly 0.1% while London painfully gleaned 0.3%.

The markets are currently awaiting progress on the US debt ceiling file. Friday, Wells Fargo announced a possible interruption in the negotiations on the subject, thus reinforcing the fears that an agreement will not be reached anytime soon.

Negotiations in Washington with a view to raising the debt ceiling, and therefore avoiding a default by the United States in the short term, should therefore remain in everyone’s mind on Monday, especially since no major data is on the agenda.

Nevertheless, the next few days will see the appearance of the PMI indices in flash estimate, inflation in the United Kingdom, business climate indices in France and Germany, as well as a new estimate of German GDP.

In the United States, the end of the week will be marked by the publication of a new estimate of economic growth, then of household income and expenditure, accompanied by a PCE price index usually scrutinized closely by the Fed.
