(News Bulletin 247) – BASF is gradually commissioning additional alkoxylation capacity in Antwerp, Belgium, and Ludwigshafen, Germany, starting in the second quarter of 2023.
The investment benefits European customers in particular with a significant increase in capacity well in excess of 150,000 metric tons per year.
“With this expansion, we are strengthening our position in Europe and opening up important growth opportunities in the European market through a wide range of applications such as detergents and cleaners, the automotive industry and construction,” said Mary Kurian, president of Care Chemicals.
Most of the capacity increase is part of the expansion of ethylene oxide and ethylene oxide derivatives at Verbund’s Belgian site in Antwerp.
In addition to alkoxylation, the expansion includes investment in a second ethylene oxide production line globally, including purified ethylene oxide capacity.
Alkoxylation is used, for example, to produce surfactants for the janitorial industry and various industrial and institutional cleaning applications.
