(News Bulletin 247) – TotalEnergies announces the signing of a power purchase agreement (PPA) for a giant wind project in Kazakhstan. ‘This will be the first power purchase agreement signed in the country for a project of this magnitude,’ the group said.
Located in the Zhambyl region, the project involves the construction of a 1 GW onshore wind farm combined with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system. It represents an investment of approximately $1.4 billion.
The electricity produced by the Mirny project will be sold in full to the Renewable Energy Financial Settlement Center, a public entity owned by the Government of Kazakhstan, for supply to the national grid. This project will supply electricity to 1 million people.
‘This project represents an important step in TotalEnergies’ multi-energy strategy. TotalEnergies will bring its expertise in managing large-scale projects to make this project a success,’ said Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies.
