(News Bulletin 247) – Ryanair today called on the DAA – the group that notably manages Dublin airport – to ask it to stop taking advantage of the regulations to obtain unjustified price increases on airport charges already raised in Dublin. The company also points to the monopoly position enjoyed by the DAA.
“The DAA’s recent assertion that it needs a price increase to address staffing shortages in its security operations is false,” Ryanair said.
The airline also believes that the problem of queues at Dublin airport is attributable to the poor management of the DAA rather than a supposed shortage of staff.
Ryanair adds that the DAA has already received ‘excessive price increases’ under the regulatory scheme in Ireland in 2022 and that further increases would fund ‘an unnecessary 4-lane tunnel’ to access the apron west.
Ryanair also believes that the DAA deliberately manages car parking in an unfair manner in order to be able to put pressure on the Competition Authority and obtain monopolistic control of the QuickPark car park, which is the only car park competing with Dublin airport.
However, according to the company, ‘the DAA has a lot of land immediately surrounding Dublin Airport which could be opened up as temporary car parks at very short notice, which would relieve the pressure on parking at Dublin Airport and , more importantly, would keep the cost of car parking low for customers’.
