(News Bulletin 247) – BASF announces that it has signed a letter of intent with Zhejiang Guanghua Technology (KHUA) providing for BASF’s Zhanjiang Verbund site to supply neopentyl glycol (NPG) to KHUA.
KHUA, a Chinese polyester resin manufacturer, plans to build a high-end powder coating resin production plant on Donghai Island, Zhanjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone (China). This plant should have an annual production capacity of around 100,000 tonnes per year.
It is precisely in this same area that BASF is building a world-scale NPG plant with an annual production capacity of 80,000 metric tons.
“We are delighted to strengthen our long-standing partnership with KHUA through this co-location,” said Vasilios Galanos, Senior Vice President, Asia-Pacific Midstream at BASF.
“We are confident that this strategic move will create synergies that will benefit both parties, including improved collaboration and supply reliability, faster delivery, access to shared resources and reduced costs,” he adds. .
According to BASF, this partnership should also help meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly powder coatings in China and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
