(News Bulletin 247) – Stellantis announced on Monday that it plans to build a second battery factory (‘gigafactory’) in the United States, alongside Samsung, with start-up planned for early 2027.

The location of the new facility is currently under review and more specific information will be released at a later date, the automaker said in a statement.

The new site is expected to help the group reach its goal of launching at least 25 new electric vehicles on the North American market by the end of the decade.

Last year, Stellantis and Samsung SDI announced, as part of their joint venture ‘StarPlus Energy’, their intention to build a first battery manufacturing plant in Kokomo (Indiana), which should start in the first quarter of 2025.

This plant should have an annual production capacity of 33 GWh, up from the initial target of 23 GWh.

The second plant, planned for 2027, should have an initial annual production capacity of 34 gigawatt hours (GWh).
