(News Bulletin 247) – Ford announced on Monday that it intends to expand its ‘BlueCruise’ hands-free highway driving technology by improving the flexibility of its offering.

The American automaker explains that drivers of eligible vehicles will now be able to opt for monthly and annual subscriptions to its driving system, after having benefited from a free 90-day trial.

This more flexible offer, which for example will allow motorists to take advantage of the features of ‘BlueCruise’ for a ‘road trip’ (road trip) of a few weeks, should help convince more users to switch to ‘almost autonomous’ driving. .

According to the results of a recent survey by S&P Global Mobility, consumers say they are indeed ready to activate the services of a connected car provided they have had the opportunity to try them first.

According to the same survey, 82% of those questioned who were able to benefit from a free trial would ‘certainly’ or ‘probably’ consider acquiring a connected vehicle for their next purchase.

Ford says it plans to fit the BlueCruise system on more than 500,000 new Ford and Lincoln vehicles in North America in 2024 alone, up from a fleet of some 225,000 vehicles now.

The purchase of BlueCruise software is priced at $2100 for a three-year service period, for $800 per year and $75 per month.
