(Reuters) – French telecommunications group Iliad on Tuesday reported a 5.1% increase in its key nine-month operating profit thanks to strong commercial performances in France and Italy in the third quarter.

Over the first nine months, the EBITDAaL of the group, delisted two years ago, stood at 2.55 billion euros, compared to 2.42 billion a year earlier.

Free, Iliad’s brand in France, gained 324,000 new subscribers during the third quarter, a record according to the group. In Italy, Iliad gained 382,000 new subscribers, its best performance in three years.

“These very good results are the fruit of the choices we have made in terms of investment and defense of the purchasing power of our subscribers,” said Thomas Reynaud, CEO of Iliad, in a press release.

Most European telecommunications operators have increased the prices of their products to limit the impact of inflation on costs and subscriber growth.

Iliad for its part set a 5-year price cap at the start of the year for its two main packages, but was criticized for having increased the price of additional packages.

Iliad’s results reflect a trend among its main French competitors, with Orange, Bouygues Telecom and SFR all reporting slight profit growth compared to the previous year.
