PARIS (Reuters) – The tourist reservations platform Booking.com will have to submit to new competition rules from the European Union (EU), in the same way as digital giants Amazon or Alphabet (Google), the Commission announced on Monday European.
The new community regulation on digital markets (DMA, “Digital Markets Act”) came into force on March 6 in an attempt to counter anti-competitive practices in this area.
Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft and ByteDance, owner of TikTok, suspected of abuse of dominant position, are already required to comply with these stricter rules.
Concerned in turn, the Dutch platform Booking.com has six months to comply with this regulatory framework, specified the Commission.
Booking.com told Reuters it was working with the European Commission to comply.
“We are currently reviewing the decision and intend to cooperate constructively with the European Commission as we develop solutions to comply with the provisions.”
