(News Bulletin 247) – The Paris Stock Exchange is progressing slightly at the gates of 8,200 points, in a session with sluggish volumes, in the absence of many investors this Monday.

Start of the week with a slight increase on the Paris Stock Exchange, in the absence of many investors who left to head to the fields for Pentecost. At midday, the CAC 40 rose 0.34% to 8,194.94 points, after a brief incursion to 8,200 points shortly after 10 a.m.

After a dull weekend, the Parisian market is regaining some color, in the wake of the trend in Asia. The Shanghai and Kong Kong stock exchanges closed in the green after the Chinese government’s announcements concerning support measures for its crisis-ridden real estate sector.

This rise, however, is taking place in anemic volumes, with only 376 million euros exchanged since the opening.

The lively Parisian market is suffering from the absence of many operators, since several European stock exchanges such as that of Oslo are closed on Pentecost Monday. Not to mention that French investors may have taken leave on the same day, Pentecost Monday being a public holiday, even if many companies choose this day as a “solidarity day”.

The agenda will be sparse at the start of the week, but it will expand over the course of the week with the speeches of several members of the American Federal Reserve. These interventions will give some indications to investors looking for signals on the future intentions of the Fed regarding its monetary policy. On this subject, the American institution will publish its report of its last monetary policy meeting on Wednesday. Nvidia will also release its first quarter results on Wednesday, but it will be after Wall Street closes.

The next day, Thursday, several activity data for the month of May will be revealed in Europe but also in the United States.

Clariane on the rise

On the value side, a few titles stand out on the Parisian market.

Among the biggest increases in the CAC 40, we find Totalernergies which rose by 1.1%, while oil prices moved a little earlier this morning to the highest levels of early May, against a backdrop of political uncertainty in Iran and in Saudi Arabia, two main world crude producing countries. The July North Sea Brent contract is now down 0.3% at $83.63 per barrel, while the June WTI contract is down 0.4% at $79.27 per barrel.

Excluding the flagship index, Clariane soars 28.2% after gaining 10% on Friday. The former Korian announced on Friday the terms of its capital increase operations, confirming the upcoming arrival of the HLD Europe Group as a new reference shareholder, alongside Crédit Agricole Assurances.

Atos gives back 0.8% while the IT group’s bond creditors rejected the takeover offer from Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky, according to information published by La Tribune.

Scor lost 3.5% after having already lost 6.1% on Friday in reaction to disappointing quarterly results. The reinsurer announced a net profit down 37% year-on-year in the first quarter.

EPC Groupe sells 4.3%, the explosives manufacturing and distribution company indicated on Monday that it had been the subject of a search by the French Competition Authority.

On other markets, the euro is stable against the dollar at 1.0869 dollars. Note the records for copper and gold this Monday. Gold rose 1.05% to $2,441.26 per ounce, after hitting a record $2,449.83. Copper futures listed on the London Metal Exchange hit an all-time high at $11,104.50. the ton this Monday morning.
