FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Investor sentiment in the euro zone deteriorated more than expected in July, ending eight consecutive months of gains, the Sentix index showed on Monday.
The Sentix index for the eurozone fell to -7.3 points in July, compared to 0.3 in June and a consensus of 0.0.
The outlook index also fell from 10.0 in June to 1.5 in July, a development that Sentix said was “likely to worry forecasters.”
“The recent recovery of the European economy has come to an abrupt halt,” notes Sentix.
The survey suggests investors are concerned about the French elections, German regional elections and uncertainty surrounding the US presidential election in November.
The outlook for the German economy, Europe’s largest, also deteriorated in July, with the current situation index rising from -26.3 in June to -32.3 in July, after three consecutive monthly increases.
The survey was conducted among 1,140 investors between July 4 and 6.
