(Reuters) – Stellantis is recalling 332,000 Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Fiat vehicles in the United States over a problem with faulty seat belt sensors, the U.S. auto safety regulator said on Wednesday.

“A seat belt buckle sensor may be improperly connected, preventing the front seat airbag from deploying as intended,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in a statement.

Sensors, located in the buckles, are used to detect whether the seat belt is properly engaged.

The recall affects certain 2017-2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia, 2018-2025 Alfa Romeo Stelvio, as well as 2019-2023 Fiat 500X, Jeep Renegade, and 2024 Fiat 500E models.

Dealers will repair defective vehicles free of charge, NHTSA added.

Stellantis is also facing problems with defective airbags and has had to order several recalls on some of its Citroën and DS models, as well as those of the Opel brand.
