(Reuters) – Renault reported a rise in sales volumes in the first six months of the year on Thursday, with the company saying the result was driven by the strong performance of its hybrid vehicles in Europe, its key region.
The carmaker saw its global sales increase by 1.9% in the first half, to 1,154,700 units, compared to 1,133,478 units a year ago, almost three-quarters of which were in Europe.
The group’s half-year sales in Europe increased by 6.7%, outpacing market growth of 5.5%, with electrified vehicles accounting for 29.6% of the group’s sales in the region, up 4.3 percentage points compared to 2023.
Sales volume in the second quarter, however, slowed, after increasing 2.6% in the first quarter.
The group recorded strong growth in the commercial vehicle segment, at 14.6%. However, overall volumes of Renault brand passenger vehicles fell by 2% to 573,149 units.
Dacia’s half-yearly sales increased by 3.8%.
