(News Bulletin 247) – The Dutch group has published disappointing order intake and falls on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange. The company also lowered its targets for 2025.
Difficult session for ASML. The third European company in terms of market capitalization (behind Novo Nordisk and LVMH) fell sharply on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange this Tuesday.
At the close, its action fell 15.6% to 668.10 euros. The group specializing in photolithography, a key process in the manufacturing of semiconductors, reported disappointing order intake for the third quarter.
These order intakes stood at 2.6 billion euros when the consensus was twice as high, at 5.4 billion euros, according to Bloomberg.

Market segments that take time to recover
“While AI continues to evolve strongly and show growth potential, other segments of the market are taking longer to recover. It now appears that the recovery is more gradual than expected. This trend is expected to continue in 2025, which encourages customers to be cautious,” said the general director, Christophe Fouquet, in a press release.
The company’s sales in the third quarter stood at 7.47 billion euros, compared to 6.24 billion euros a year earlier, the gross margin stood at 50.8%, compared to 51 .5% a year earlier, and profit at 2.08 billion euros
For the fourth quarter, ASML said it expects revenues ranging from 8.8 billion euros to 9.2 billion euros and a gross margin of between 49% and 50%.
“Based on the recent market dynamics mentioned above, we expect our total net revenue for 2025 to increase to a range between €30 billion and €35 billion, which is the lower half of the range we provided at our 2022 Investor Day. We expect gross margin to be between 51% and 53%, which is lower than the range we provided then, primarily due to the delay in EUV application.” , also indicated Christophe Fouquet.
“EUV” (extreme ultraviolet radiation) lithography tools constitute the company’s new generation of products. This process makes it possible to trace finer patterns to process ever more information, with a reduced wavelength. And therefore ultimately enable the production of more powerful chips.
ASML has, a priori, published its results in advance, since its accounts were to be communicated on October 16, i.e. Wednesday.
