(Reuters) – The union representing Boeing workers announced on Saturday that its members would vote on Wednesday on the latest contract proposal submitted by the plane maker to end more than a month of strike, providing for a 35% wage increase. over four years.
Some 33,000 unionized Boeing workers on the west coast of the United States have been on strike since September 13 to demand better pay, leading to the interruption of production of the 737 MAX, the company’s best-selling model. aircraft manufacturer, and its wide-body 767 and 777 aircraft.
Boeing’s latest offer includes a $7,000 signing bonus, the IAM union said.
Boeing declined immediate comment.
The aircraft manufacturer withdrew its previous offer on October 8, providing for a 30% salary increase over four years, after the failure of negotiations with IAM, which for its part demanded a 40% increase.
The Biden administration’s acting Labor Secretary, Julie Su, traveled to Seattle this week to try to reconcile the positions of the two parties, while Boeing has just announced the elimination of 17,000 jobs, or 10% of its workforce worldwide.
