COPENHAGEN (Reuters) – Maersk said on Thursday it saw strong demand in the third quarter, supported notably by exports from China and Southeast Asia, as the global supply chain continues to be disrupted by the situation in the Middle East.
The shipping company also confirmed the strength of preliminary third-quarter results released on October 21, when the group also raised its full-year guidance due to its earnings, strong demand and of the persistence of disruptions to maritime transport in the Red Sea.
“Container trade remained strong in the third quarter. Demand is estimated to have increased by 4% to 6% year-on-year. Exports from China and Southeast Asia account for a very significant share of this growth,” the Danish company said in a statement.
Maersk, seen as a barometer of global trade, said China’s economy remained marked by excess production capacity and a reliance on export-led growth, while domestic demand and consumer confidence remained moderate.
