(News Bulletin 247) – The Parisian index gained a few fractions this Monday, at the start of a busy week in economic publications. The CAC 40 nibbles 0.03%, but remains below 7,300 points.
Shy start to the week for the Paris Stock Exchange. The CAC 40 closed with a symbolic increase of 0.03% to 7,257.47 points while it gained a little more than 1% at the start of the morning.
The Paris index was initially supported by Donald Trump’s nomination of Scott Bessent as US Treasury Secretary. The profile of the future head of the US Treasury reassures the markets. The positions of this emblematic figure of Wall Street are perceived as more moderate, particularly on customs duties.
But a disappointing German indicator hampered the CAC 40’s attempt to rebound. The morale of German entrepreneurs fell more than expected in November, to 85.7 points, according to the IFO barometer published this Monday morning. The market consensus anticipated a less pronounced deterioration, at 86 points compared to 86.5 points in October.
On Wall Street, investors ignore the prevailing gloom in Europe, and welcome the appointment of Scott Bessent with the Dow Jones and S&P 500 setting new records during the session.
