ROME (Reuters) – The Italian government is ready to work with Stellantis NV on the carmaker’s future strategy provided it keeps jobs and factories in the country, Council President Giorgia Meloni said on Sunday.
“We evaluate economic cases on their own merits,” Giorgia Meloni said at an event in Rome organized by her party, the Brothers of Italy.
“This goes for Stellantis as for any other company operating in Italy. If the approach is constructive, if there is a desire to maintain factories and jobs, we will be ready to do our part of the work,” he said. -she added.
A meeting on the Italian auto industry is scheduled for December 17, with the participation of Industry Minister Adolfo Urso, representatives of the automaker and local unions.
After the abrupt resignation of Carlos Tavares as chief executive on December 1, Rome hopes to improve its strained relations with the automaker, which owns 14 brands, including Jeep, Ram, Fiat and Peugeot.
Italian politicians have repeatedly accused Carlos Tavares of neglecting historic production sites and relocating production abroad.
