Brussels (Reuters) – The European Commission inflicted a fine of around 458 million euros on 15 major car manufacturers on Tuesday and the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA) for participating in an agreement concerning the recycling of vehicles at the end of life.
The recycling of vehicles at the end of life is to dismantle cars and treat them for recycling or elimination when they are no longer able to operate.
The Commission said that, over a period of 15 years, 16 car manufacturers and the ACEA concluded anti -competitive agreements and have engaged in concerted practices related to the recycling of cars.
Mercedes-Benz, who also participated in the operation, was exempt from fine for revealing the existence of the agreement to the Commission.
Among the manufacturers concerned, Volkswagen received a fine of 127.7 million euros, the Renault-Nissan alliance of 81.5 million euros and the Stellantis group of 74.9 million euros.
